Equipment at iLANG

An assistive technology workstation is in service in the Language Commons. The equipment includes a computer station with a braille keyboard, touchable monitor and JAWS screen reader, as well as a text-to-speech reader, for supporting students with diverse learning needs.

1.  “EIBraille” Braille keyboard

 

The EIBraille is a portable device specifically designed for users who are blind, visually impaired or deaf-blind. It contains 14 braille cells and allows users to use Braille input and supports Braille and speech for the output. The device is ideal for quickly create notes, read on a web browser and work in popular Microsoft apps.

2.  “JAWS” screen reading application for Windows

 

JAWS, Job Access With Speech, is a comprehensive screen reading application for Windows. It enables blind and low-vision computer users to read the text that is displayed on the computer screen, without seeing screen contents or navigating with a mouse. It provides speech or Braille output for most popular computer applications on Windows such as reading and scanning documents, checking emails, browsing websites, filling out webforms, using with Daisy (Digital Accessible Information System ) formatted basic training and navigating the mouse at ease.
