Barrier-Free Discovery Tour to Singapore 2024
SEN Support organized a memorable Barrier-Free Discovery Tour to Singapore from 4 to 9 June 2024. We had a fantastic time with all participants during this tour!
This transformative 6-day, 5-night tour empowered 15 students with special educational needs (SEN) and 16 faculty/staff members by providing firsthand experiences and raising awareness of inclusiveness and accessibility within the community.
Participants visited universities recommended by the Ministry of Education in Singapore, including the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Singapore Management University (SMU).
Beyond classrooms, the participants also explored organizations such as Enabling Village of SG Enable, Dialogue in the Dark Singapore, and Dignity Kitchen in Singapore. They also had the opportunity to explore local community accessibility services and facilities.
Through experiential learning, we can learn the best practices there, and transfer relevant knowledge and practical applications to enhance community support.
As part of this enriching experience, our student participants created two valuable contributions:
1. Guided Barrier-Free Travel Video: In this video series, we provide practical insights related to accessibility. From navigating accessible pathways to understanding assistive devices, these videos empower travelers with essential aspects of barrier-free travel in Singapore.
2. Reflection Video: Our student participants share personal experiences and reflections on the tour. These heartfelt narratives foster awareness of inclusiveness and encourage viewers to consider accessibility from diverse viewpoints. Through reflection, we deepen our understanding and commitment to inclusive travel.
