Community Care Fund - Enhancing the academic expenses grant for SEN students
The Commission on Poverty (CoP) approved on 27 March 2015 the allocation of funds from the Community Care Fund for enhancing the academic expenses grant for post-secondary students with special educational needs and financial needs in order to strengthen the support for these students for three academic years from 2015/16 to 2017/18. At its meeting held on 21 June 2018, the CoP agreed to extend the programme for three academic years from 2018/19 till 2020/21. The programme will continue to operate on its existing parameters.
Each eligible student will be offered an additional academic expenses grant of up to $8,680 in 2018/19 academic year. The actual amount of subsidy receivable is to be determined with respect to the student’s level of assistance assessed in the means test of the Student Finance Office (SFO).
Eligibility
If you are :
- eligible for and have passed the means test of the Tertiary Student Finance Scheme – Publicly-funded Programmes (TSFS) or the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP); and
- confirmed by a relevant professional to have at least one kind of special educational needs including specific learning difficulties, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit / hyperactivity disorders, physical disability, visual impairment, hearing impairment, speech and language impairment and mental illness;
you are eligible for receiving the grant.

For students applying for TSFS
Eligible applicants of the grant can complete and return the request form to the SFO of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency (WFSFAA) by 31 December 2018 by posting / faxing to the respective office as below:

In any case, the request form should reach the SFO on 31 March 2019 the latest.
